Which Electric Radiator should I choose? Gel? Oil? or Dry?

December 14, 2018 Katie

Choosing which electric radiator is right for your project can be a difficult enough decision - as there are often many things to consider.

Oil Filled Electric Radiator

Dry Electric Radiator

Oil-filled, Gel-filled or Dry electric radiator

This is very much determined, much like the size, on the purpose and usage of the room in which your electric radiator is required to perform.

A dry heater is designed to heat up both quickly and efficiently whilst you are in the room, ensuring that no heat energy is wasted when you do not require it. An oil-filled heater on the other hand will take longer to heat a room, but will heat your room for longer - even after being turned off.

An oil-filled radiator is also deemed to be safer than a dry electric radiator, as air flow to dry radiators can be affected by dust - therefore they can overheat and can be hot to the touch for children and pets in comparison to an oil-filled radiator. There are specific low surface temperature electric radiators available for dry technology, although these are not widely available – they are a fantastic option for those who prefer the dry technology electric radiator.

A gel-filled radiator is very similar to an oil filled radiator, but uses a thermodynamic gel rather than oil for greater efficiency than a standard oil-filled radiator.

Size and Wattage

This is easier if you get the right professional help. At Heater Shop, our advisors will calculate the size and wattage needed with information such as room dimensions and by communicating the purpose of the electric radiator. Just call 01473 276686 to speak to an advisor today for great advice.

"I rang up ready to order two radiators but after speaking to the sales person he advised me I was ordering the wrong type of radiators for my needs. He then advised the radiators that would be more appropriate and he was absolutely spot on and they have been amazing. I would recommend these guys as they are more interested in the fact you order the right radiator and not about selling!"

We also offer a room calculator on our website, to allow you to work out which radiator size and wattage is needed. Our electric radiator room size calculator will provide you with an estimate of the minimum size and quantity of radiators, panel heaters or storage heaters your room will require to establish and maintain a set temperature (generally 21°C) within the UK, based on a standard ceiling height of 2.4m.

This is often a personal decision and may also be based on how contemporary the specification requirements are. Style and price often go hand-in-hand, but at Heater Shop we strive to keep our prices low allowing affordable, stylish and contemporary radiators to be obtainable to everyone. Our price match promise means we if you find the same brand product and offer online for the same amount or less - we'll beat it!
